Remote Desktop Protocol [PRINT]
CREATED: 12/08/2020 @ 11:05, UPDATED: 12/08/2020 @ 12:18 BY: Mark

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is the Microsoft tool to gain access to a computer at a location, howeverm unlike TeamViewer, the connection is direct to the PC.  This can cause various issues or restrict the number of concurrent connections that can be enabled.

If you have been granted, you will need to enter the address you have been given then log in with your Campus username and password.  While connected your host machine will be locked and not available to anyone else.

To connect from a Windows 10 PC

In the search box on the taskbar, type Remote Desktop Connection, and then select Remote Desktop Connection. In Remote Desktop Connection, type the name of the PC you want to connect to (you will be given this - keep it to yourself to make sure no one else attempts to connect to it - it will be something like vpn.pku.org.uk:10234), and then select Connect.

To connect from Android or iOS

Open the Remote Desktop app (available for free from Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the Mac App Store), and add the name of the PC that you want to connect to (you will be given this - keep it to yourself to make sure no one else attempts to connect to it - it will be something like vpn.pku.org.uk:10234).  Select the remote PC name that you added, and then wait for the connection to complete.
